Gamespy reviews the latest Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six game (Lockdown) as, "This may go down as the sequel that kills the franchise", rating it a 2 out of 5 for the PC. The reason this is news worthy of this site is due to the fact that yet another great series is dumbed down for the console audience. Later the review states...
"Unfortunately, the briefings are no longer as detailed as they once were, and you can no longer formulate a plan of attack using waypoints and the like. (Undoubtedly, those omissions are the result of the game originally being designed to play on the Xbox.)"
If the publishers would have kept to just its PC roots it would have done a lot better as it could have built from what it had (which had been a 4 out of 5 rating for the last Rainbow). The same site (different guy) gave the Xbox version a 3.5 out of five. Looks like low expectations from the console crowd. Or maybe they just didn't know any better.
As mentioned in a past post. Designers need to Program for the PC and then port to the console, and never the other way around.
