True Gamers Headset
It seems these day, if your not gaming on some type of VOIP or voice communications, then your in a disadvantage from the get go. There's no doubt, if your in a group that can play nice and knows how to communicate to one another, then you've truly got game. I personally like the fact that if my opponent saves a replay after the match, they have no way of looking at the dialog between my teammates, unlike in-game text messaging.
So far, only two option have been available for gamers wish to communicate. Microphone or headset. Microphones are nice because your not stuck to your desk, but unfortunately you can get feedback or an echo effect, if your house speakers are up too high. Headsets prevent that, but then your stuck to your desk and have to leave the joy-o'-smack-talk everytime you grab a beer.
My hopes have been to get a wireless headset, but a year ago, a bluetooth headset was around $300. And when I'm talking headset, I'm not talking about some cheap ass earbud for cell phones. I'm talk full in stereo quality head set. I still want to hear the game in all its glory and be comfy. A recent review of bluetooth headsets shows that my quest for the blue tooth is getting closer. Cost: about $110. In a way, I can thank the X-Box Live crowd for demanding such luxuries for their wireless controllers. Also, based on the review, these headset manufacturers are really marketing toward a multi use device, such as cell phone, Skype (Voip Com), iPods, ect. Its a shame there's not a bigger market specifically for gaming.
Now that the price is right, my only concerns are the Bluetooth bandwidth limitations, which can result in occational voice delay. Also, there's the short broadcast distance of about 30ft. Just shy of my bathroom ;) Where the heck are the wireless headphones I can use with my Wireless Internet Router...hint hint.
