Sites are pushing out their E3 awards this week. By no means does this give the definitive future on where gaming is going in the next 12 months...but its the closest we can get. Download category really doesn't mean much, how can a company be indie, yet afford a E3 table, just not reflective enough of the field. Seriously, by that standard, all PC games are downloadable these days. And for the record, I also skipped the music/rhythm category, that stuff is just mindless rehashed button mashing who's time has passed. In fact, the defacto award site also drops this category, in favor of "Best Social/casual game". This is a step in the right direction, however I ask, is The Sims not a casual game? Is Left4Dead not a social game? Its almost like the folks that make the categories feel obliged to a nonsense category for a very limited group, and exclude games that already fall in other genres.
IGN Break Down
X360 - 10
PC - 8
PS3 - 5
Wii - 1
Again we see another poor showing for the Wii, while the PC slips in the usual platformer, fighting action, & sports category.
Gamespy Break Down
PC - 12
X360 - 9
PS3 - 6
Wii - 4
No 'Best Strategy' award, WTF? Regardless, PC still gets a commanding win. In part to the MMO: Old Republic getting a few awards. In comparison, Wii still looking sad, and it'll loose its novelty in the near future.
Gamespot Break Down
X360 - 9
PS3 - 9
PC - 8
Wii - 2
Very close. If you go by this, there is no winner in the console/PC war. I'll stop picking on the Wii.
Game Critics Break Down
PC - 7
X360 - 7
PS3 - 7
Wii - 1
PS3 inches higher with Uncharted 2, while the X360 and PC merrily share many titles, much like last year. Overall, a 3 way tie, is nothing new, considering that was the theme for the 2008 end of year awards.
