Past the Hype - 2nd half of 2011

[Past the Hype focuses on the games that have been featured in the monthly The List, that failed miserably in reviews. Its my way of saying, sorry I as was sucked into thinking this game was going to be good]. August - December 2011.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 -
Its not very often I write a review about a game, but this title was the worst of its kind.  Here's what I had to say.

Dead Island -
Classic case of Trailer != Gameplay.  What a gaming disaster.  You get very little storyline, bland missions, poor PC port, game stopping buggy code that will never get fixed,  and the FoV!  Look Techland can't make good games, but they sure can sell sunshine.

Jurassic Park: The Game
I'm not really sure whats up with Telltale lately.  They were riding high; revisiting classic Lucasarts adventure game IPs.  Then suddenly they started to score movie IPs , and churn out episodic content based on them.  Look, it failed for Back to the Future, its failing for Jurassic Park, and its going to fail for the Walking Dead.  Telltale needs to turn around something innovating, or they're screwed.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North -
Congratulations, you have scored one of the biggest fantasy IPs ever.  What kind of game do you plan  to make with it?  An action RPG with no RPG elements, no storyline, and no personality that's unique to the Tolkien universe.  It'll still have LoTR in the title right?  Great, make it.
