I've been reading a lot on how certain games, hitting the shelves this holiday season, will run fine on today's "Next Gen" PC rigs. My complaint is this is a false statement. While the Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo have all made the leap now to the "Next Generation" consoles, the PC has not... yet!
The PC will be the final gaming system to jump to "Next Gen" in 2007. This comes with the release of Vista and more importantly DirectX 10. In addition to the new sites and sounds we'll get from DX10, we'll also see more games moving toward 64-bit multi core processing power. Who needs a separate physics processor when you can tap this type of power, course you can never have too much power.
The main reason game review sites refer to current PC rigs as "next Gen" is because graphics the PCs currently have are at par, if not higher then the new "next gen" consoles. Plus, many games available for next gen consoles, also have ports to the PC. If Nintendo taught us anything, its that innovation doesn't have to come in the form of graphics. 2008 will be a very big year for PC gaming.
