Research with Games

Every time I see an article about research utilizing video games, I have to take interest. Mainly because, I too, utilize games for research. But, what I find interesting is how poorly conducted and out of touch, the research really is. I've already beaten the "Video game makes people violent research" to death (Hmm, I do believe Sadam and Hitler were not gamers). So on to new stuff.

First, there's the utilization of virtual reality to help smokers kick the habit. After watching the CNN clip, there's just something detached about a bunch of underpaid nobodies telling you "come on, you know you want to smoke" VR has its place, but it seems, it could be used for better applications.

Then there's the University of Rochester study about how gaming actually helps sharpen your vision. Okay, my glasses are getting thicker and thicker as I progress in life. Not to mention, I can personally admit to crappier vision after a good session of gaming.

While I do applaud these folks for trying to research in a new medium, it just seems they could use more time in front of the drawing board.
