FEAR Review

You won't see many reviews on this site. Since I'm on a time and money budget, I don't often get my hands on as many games as I would like. Of course, I'm still waiting for folks like THQ to start throwing licenses at me :)

Short review:
AI: Best I've seen to date
Storyline: Blind date syndrome.

Highlight: Shadows
Lowlight: Mindless Security turrets

Long review:
Story line seemed a bit patchy with the laptops and voice messages as the main source of info, didn't really help flow the story. And where was the fear in FEAR?
I wonder if game companies will learn that auto-turrets do nothing for the game, except slow down the pace. There is zero gratification in defeating a turret. Half-life's sentry gun was at least a step in the right direction. Watching AI maneuver with jumps and rolls, while screaming orders the whole time was great. Now why is it the AI can jump through a window, and I can't? AI spotting my flashlight beam is a sign of good things to come.

Overall, I'd put FEAR over Doom 3 but below Half-life 2. I'd rather see Monolith concentrate on a "No One Lives Forever 3" then a "FEAR 2" next. Although I'd still be curious how both would play out.
