A Tale of Two Games

I often wonder, why would a company NOT release a title for the PC? I decided to take a look, using two games as a case study. Starcraft: Ghost and Halo. I'm picking on these games, because when they were announced, I was looking forward to their release.

Then it happened. Word gets out, release date postponed till unknown, exclusive rights sold to . Heart broken, I wondered, what did the PC do to piss off the game companies. Then it happened. Halo, finally released, became best selling Xbox game ever. Wow, I thought, this must be one heck of a game. Then I finally saw it. It was .. well ... a 1st person shooter. And ... well ... was crap. It had nothing new or original to it that any 2nd hand PC shooter didn't already try. So, was the move by Bungie a smart one? Yep, since it introduced early 90's gaming to a whole new audience ... yawn.

Today, buzz is kicking up again, as the new game Starcraft: Ghost gets ready for its release this year...maybe. Again, another game that should have been out years ago, but was lost in the developer wars. This one is special, because only PC gamers are familiar with the Starcraft Universe. Now, loyal PC fans won't get a taste for some 1st person action. Reason: game really isn't all that original. May as well play the Battlefield Starcraft Mod for better action. I'm sure it will be the number one selling game when its launched as it introduces more unoriginallity to the consoles.

As to Blizzard, makers of Ghost. I'm not looking forward to a World of Starcraft, so concentrate on Starcraft 2.
