PS3 price announced. $499 for the low end, $599 for the high end system.
Wow. Talk about painful. I can build an equal PC system for that, and get more life with it through upgrades. PS3 games could run from $60-$80. Double Ouch.
The difference from CNN Money:
"The $499 PS3 will not be able to read data from Sony memory sticks, SD or compact flash cards (a feature Sony touted Monday evening). Nor will it offer 802.11 b/g wireless compatibility. And perhaps most importantly to owners of newer high definition television sets, the $499 PS3 will not have an HDMI output."
My argument, with gas prices as high as they are, parents will have very little interest in shoveling out $600 for a "video game" system. A toy if you will. True its not marketed as a toy, but rather an entertainment system, but parents won't see that. As for teens, saving up their money, it just went into their tank aswell. A counter argument could be, families aren't making trips as much, so home entertainment needs raise.
Next, it looks like you have to pay the higher price for the high graphic output. What goods a Blue-Ray player, if you can't get the best HDMI output? Never mind the price for the TV.
Sony also claims a Wii like controller. But its nothing more then the Microsoft Sidewinder that's been out for the PC for some time now.
Expect prices to drop real soon, probably after Xmas, if not sooner.
