PC Games worthy of mention for this month, ordered by interest and I explain why.
(Monthly releases are only estimated)
Crap, its a new month already and I haven't even stated shopping from 2 months ago. 10 titles may be a record for "The List". So much for the dying PC.
Half-Life 2: Orange Box - FPS , Bundle
What's not to love about this bundle: HL2, HL2: Episode One, HL2: Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. Portal may revolutionize multiplayer game play, Eps 2 adds to one of the greatest FPS storylines, while TF2 just looks hilariously fun. FYI, games are sold separately on Steam. I said it before, this is the way to successfully do episodic content.
Jericho - FPS
Who didn't like Clive's Undying for its awesome creep factor. This is Clive Barkers next big game. So gory, game may be banned in Germany. Each squad member has different types of supernatural powers. Let's just hope the squad based element doesn't kill the game, as squad interfaces are hit or miss.
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer - RPG, Expansion
Okay, still haven't finished the base game yet, but nice to know I'll be able to continue using my original characters. That's respect in my book.
Hellgate London - RPG/MMORPG
Still not clear if there's an actual ending to this game. Opt in monthly fee for additional content seems like Bullshit. Great concept of SCI-FI/Fantasy. Looks extremely diverse with good story. Maybe I'll just wait for a bundle later in the future.
The Witcher - RPG
Promises to be a violent adult RPG, unlike those softer Bioware titles. This better be good, because its the only solo RPG PC players get for the holidays.
Timeshift - FPS
I think I'll put this in the Prey/Painkiller level. Sorta like a minor FPS title. Has its novelty timeshifting element to it. But heck, System Shock had novelty elements too, and look how well its doing now (see Bioshock).
Command & Conquer Saga - RTS
Okay, this bundle contains, Deeeeep breath...
C&C, C&C Covert Operations, Red Alert, RA: Counterstike, RA: the Aftermath, Tiberium Sun, TS: Firestorm, Red Alert 2, Yuri's revenge, Renegade, Generals, G: Zero-Hour, and finally the still shiny and new C&C3. All for about $50.
Tabula Rasa - MMORPG
I'll say and fight the urge again. I will not play MMORPGs. That said, Seeing another Richard Garriott game in a sci-fi universe is note worthy.
Edit: Pushed back to November
Guitar Hero III - Sim
As a guitar player, I must say this game series seems extraordinary lame. But, since I've never played it, perhaps I just don't know its "crack" like qualities. Its about $20 less then the console versions.
EDIT: the following game will be delayed until 2008, for cross platform compatibility.
Universe at War: Earth Assault - RTS
Well, it's another SCI-FI RTS. Could be a good alternative if SupCom doesn't work well on an older system. Regardless, I expect it to have a short life since Starcraft 2 will be this games killer, along with all the other SCi-Fi RTS's (SupCom, Dawn of War, C&C3). What's going for this game? Its done by the original C&C team (former Westwood studio employees)
