PC Games worthy of mention for this month, ordered by interest and I explain why.
(Monthly releases are only estimated)
The 3rd (and final) month of the year end rally, this is chucked full of FPS titles. For those looking for Assassins Creed, its a no go till next year for the PC. Can only hope that means bonus content.
Crysis - FPS
From the no name makers of Farcry, Crytek is back with Crysis...and with a huge financial backing from EA. This game is expected to be "the" single player FPS of the year. That's no small task with Halo 3 and CoD4 on the market. The graphics WILL be the best you'll see to date, with interactive environments and physics to back it up. Course the storyline for Farcry sucked, but that didn't stop us from staring with mouth open at the great blue. Here's to more.
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance - RTS, expansion
New Race, better AI, and a crap more new units for the original races. This expansion holds true to the Total Annihilation model. Hopefully its not overkill.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - FPS
Responsible for the best war based FPS I've ever played, CoD4 will take you out of the WW2 arena and into modern day combat. Like previous releases (except CoD3 which was not done by the original team, and sucked), this should be intense.
Gears of War - FPS
Huge reviews for this game when it was released for the X360. Now to be released for the PC with all the bonuses and better graphics we have come to expect when givewn the cold shoulder for about a year. Course, Halo had huge reviews from console gamers...and it sucked. I can only hope, this isn't the same situation. The game will have 2 player co-op, which requires you to sign up to MS Live (free Silver) account for online play. Its not clear yet if you need to subscribe to MS Live for Lan play, or if its even available.
Unreal Tournament III - FPS
After a longer then expected hiatus, the UT series is back. Although the last one over complicated an otherwise enjoying experience, perhaps UT3 will find the balance and magic they once had. And what's this? This game will have...a plot?
F.E.A.R. Platinum - FPS, bundle
Although Perseus hits the shelves this month, as a stand alone it may not carry much weight since its not done by the original team, Monolith. Though Perseus may have co-op, the Platinum release may be the best way to introduce yourself to the F.E.A.R. universe. Brilliant marketing actually. This way Vivendi Games can keep the price higher on the original FEAR, when Monolith releases the true sequel called Project Origin. This bundle includes: F.E.A.R., Extraction Point, and Perseus Mandate.
Empire Earth III - RTS
The Empire Earth series is like the "Little engine the could". It keeps trying, but there's always some other RTS that clobbers the EE series under the bed with the rest of the dust bunnies. Once by Age of Empires, then Rise of Nations. I have no clue how this will stack up this go around for them, but I got the feeling World in Conflict will be the game that takes the Empire Earth spark away. And so it'll try, try again, I'm sure.
RPG Game Pack - RPG, bundle
Oddly titled, this collection contains "Dungeon Lords", and "Gothic III". Neither had good reviews due to glitches. But, one would expect the bundle also has the respected patches to fulfill the RPG cravings.
EA Sports 07 Collection - Sports, Bundle
Need to Get into the game? Well go buy Crysis. But want a good sports gaming package, we'll this is it. Includes Madden, NBA Live, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, NHL, and Nascar 07.
Need For Speed Pro Street - Sim
I'm a sucker for burning rubber and shiny chrome. Most of the "City" "Underground" racers have been a major upset. Will this follow suit?
Guitar Hero III - Sim
As a guitar player, I must say this game series seems extraordinary lame. But, since I've never played it, perhaps I just don't know its "crack" like qualities. Its about $20 less then the console versions.
Viva Pinata - Sim
Okay, I can't stand Sim like games, but I may make an exception here. This game is strictly a kids game, but deserves mention, as there just aren't that many done on a large budget like this.
Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back - FPS
This game is simply gonna suck. But to have the balls to make a truly graphic FPS that shows that war is not pretty, the game deserves some mention. Er... and strictly, not a kids game.
