Its been an amazing journey for the C64 application for the Apple iPhone. Like they have done with other iPhone apps; Apple in true totalitarian fashion, initially said no to the C64 application. The concern was over end users putting illegal, non Apple approved ROMs on the iPhone. Dear God, imagine if Microsoft told you what you could and could not put on Windows. For starters, Windows would work flawlessly if such a rule was imposed. But Microsoft is NOT evil, and you can put all the bloated virus infected pirated bloatware you want on your system.
Sorry, back to the iPhone. So the C64 app devs fix the problem, then Apple says, okay, we'll take our percentage of sales now... and approve it for the App Store. Yippee, glorious 1980s nostalgia on my iPhone. But wait !!! ...its pulled once more. This time, it would seem, you can hack the app and access the BASIC compiler that was part of the C64 OS. So Apple pulled it again.
So, this time, what was perfectly okay for Commodore to have BASIC open for anyone to make their own blocky apps on their system, is NOT okay for Apple. So its pulled again from the App store till the "problem" is resolved.
A side note, I wrote my first game on the C64 using the very same BASIC compiler. Today, programming is my trade, and has led to a successful career. I can truly say, I owe it primarily to that very same C64 OS, that is now damned by Apple. Make no mistake... Apple crushes dreams, is guilty of Monopoly practices, and is a master of advertising and propaganda. Apple once likened IBM to the novel 1984, yet today, Apple has become 1984.
- Apple iPhone does not let you distribute any non approved application, Google Android does.
- You can only buy an iPhone with AT&T support. Again, not the case with Android.
- Apple has tried to move the digital music compression away from mp3 to their own proprietary DRM.
- Apple does not let you put Mac OS on a PC. Microsoft, will let you put Windows on a Mac.
- Apple requires you to turn in your iPod/iPhone just to change out the battery. Other products do not.
- Mobile Apple products use proprietary ear bud plugs...what the hell?
- iTunes is full of bloatware that will fuck with your PC.
